TTL laboratories have state-of-the-art equipment for testing soils, concrete, masonry, asphalt, and aggregates. Our laboratory facilities include specialized testing equipment for triaxial compression, direct shear, resilient modulus, consolidation and permeability tests on soils, as well as routine and other special testing for laboratory testing of rock and construction materials. Our laboratories routinely perform the tests below to support site characterization for design of civil and military projects, and to assist in the construction of these projects.

Laboratory Accreditation and Qualification

TTL laboratories operate under our TTL Laboratory Quality Systems. Each quality system was established using ASTM E329 – Standard Specification for Agencies Engaged in the Testing and/or Inspection of Materials Used in Construction and AASHTO R18 – Establishing and Implementing a Quality System for Construction Materials Testing Laboratories as the primary guides. Other guides include:

  • ASTM D3740 – Standard Practice for Minimum Requirements for Agencies Engaged in the Testing and/or Inspection of Soil and Rock as Used in Engineering Design and Construction
  • ASTM C1077 – Standard Practice for Laboratories Testing Concrete and Concrete Aggregates for Use in Construction and Criteria for Laboratory Evaluation
  • ASTM D3666 – Standard Specification for Minimum Requirements for Agencies Testing and Inspecting Bituminous Paving Materials

TTL Laboratory Quality Systems and laboratory procedures have been audited in our offices by independent outside agencies. These agencies include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL), Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL), American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and various state departments of transportation (DOTs). These audits and reviews have led to our laboratories becoming validated by the USACE, accredited by AASHTO and A2LA, and approved to provide services for numerous DOTs.
